Iowa Artists Regional Art Show was held March 18 at St. Lucas The Iowa Artists regional art show and competition for entry into the state show was held at the Community Center in St. Lucas Saturday, March 18. Twenty-three artists from Northeast Iowa exhibited fifty-nine pieces, seven of which have been selected to go on to the 2006 Iowa Artists state show at the Witter Gallery in Storm Lake Saturday, May 6. Professor Siblik of Upper Iowa University in Fayette selected the following pieces for blue ribbons and to go on to the state show: Carol Sanford-Brand of Eldorado’s stain-and-leaded-glass medallion titled “Classy Girl;” Dolores Buchheit of St. Lucas’ watercolor called “Down to St. Lucas;” “Court Street,” a watercolor by Mary Ann Gloe of Decorah; an oil landscape of Waukon titled “King of the Hill” by Marcia Kruse of Lansing; an acrylic still life by Patricia Peck of Guttenberg called “Carboy’s Reflection;” an oil landscape by Jim Updegraff of West Union called “Dry Winter;” and an acrylic fantasy landscape, “Springtime Fresh,” by Dennis Ruen, Decorah. Second-place awards went to Dolores Buchheit, Mary Donna Falconer of Strawberry Point, Marill (Mary) Hatch of New Hampton, Gloria Kiburz of Strawberry Point, Roma O’Brien-Michel of Decorah, Larry Reis of Calmar, and Jim Updegraff. Third-place ribbons were awarded to Dolores Buchheit, Mary Ann Gloe (for two pieces), Marill (Mary) Hatch, Marcia Kruse, Roma O’Brien-Michel, Patricia Peck, Jim Updegraff and Dennis Ruen. Receiving honorable mention were Mary Donna Falconer, Gloria Kiburz, Marcia Kruse, Connie Mohr of Fredericksburg, Roma O’Brien-Michel, Patricia Peck, Larry Reis, Jeremiah Johnson of Decorah, Mary P. Hanson of Decorah, Megan Protsman of Lansing, Dennis Ruen and Millie Washburn of Elkader. Because pieces were judged anonymously, exhibitors received several awards.
